Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1935. Miyake graduated from the Tama Art University in 1964 and immediately moved to Paris. In Paris he worked with Guy Laroche from 1966-1968, then Givenchy and later for Geoffrey Beene in New York. In 1970 Issey Miyake decided to open his own design studio in Tokyo. Through this studio he was able to experiment with various design techniques. Issey Miyake perfumes were introduced in 1993 with the release of L'Eau D'Issey, a huge seller despite the fact that Issey Miyake was not a household name at the time. The Issey Miyake fragrance line is controlled under arrangements with Shiseido and in recent times has become one of the world's most popular fragrance houses.
